The Tourist Visa in Thailand is the most issued visa by the Thai Embassies abroad. The purpose of the visa is to allow you to come to Thailand for the purposes of tourism and spending money. The visa is limited and here is how.
The Tourist Visa in Thailand is issued by Thai Embassies abroad and allows you to visit Thailand for a period of 2 months. You may stay in Thailand as a tourist for 2 months and then you are able to extend the visa for another 30 days at Thai Immigration in Chiang Mai or Bangkok. Basically you can extend the visa at any immigration office in Thailand in the larger cities. Thai Immigration in Chiang Mai can be found in the following list of all the office on Thai Immigration in Thailand short of the Head Office in Bangkok. Note that if you are caught overstaying you will be deported from Thailand after your are processed.

You are not able to extend the Tourist Visa further than the 30 days extension which will be granted at 1,900 Baht. Once that has been extended they do allow another extension but it is only for 7 days at another 1,900 Baht. So unless it is urgent and important the last extension of 7 days is not financially viable for most. It would be much better if wanting to stay longer than 3 months in Thailand to speak to an immigration attorney with the options available to you.
